Light accumulations possible north; flurries possible elsewhere in Nebraska

A cold front came through last night, leading to more clouds and winds out of the north. Increasing cloud cover will lead to mostly cloudy skies for Tuesday.

A cooler day overall expected, too, after we reached the lower 50s on Monday. Highs on Tuesday will be right around 40° with light winds out of the northeast.

Lincoln Today Hour By Hour

We’ve been watching some light snow falling in northwest Nebraska this morning. Radar looked a bit busier than what those in southwest Nebraska were actually seeing. Not much falling south of North Platte.

The light snow will continue through Sheridan and Cherry counties for the most part into the afternoon. The snow will lift north and east, with flurries possible mostly in northeast Nebraska.

The reason? Dry air is expected to win out. Very dry air in the low levels of eastern Nebraska will not allow much to survive to the ground on Tuesday. Can’t rule out some flurries though.

Again, not much will come from this. Accumulations are expected to be less than a half inch in northwest Nebraska. Most models show similar placement for this light snow through Tuesday afternoon. That potential is shown below.

After the short-lived colder afternoon, we’ll warm up the rest of the week. There’s a small chance at some mixed precipitation on Thursday with better chances in southwest Nebraska. Freezing rain will be possible with that round that starts late Wednesday into Thursday.
