Light drizzle, remaining cool for a little longer
The second half of May has really made the switch to be a soggy one! Lincoln since May 15th has now seen just under 3″ of rain, still about an inch below normal for the month (-1.07″ through May 26th).
Much of the state does remain in drought conditions though as well.
This soggy stretch has also kept temperatures cooler. In fact, we’ve been cooler than average for almost a week straight now.
That trend will continue for another few days before we see summer-like heat return by the end of May and early June (this upcoming weekend).
Specifically for Tuesday, we’re looking at another dreary day with some patchy fog and drizzle.
Light rain/patchy drizzle will be possible with the cloud cover across eastern Nebraska today.
Temperatures will be limited to the upper 50s and lower 60s practically statewide for Tuesday afternoon.
The sun won’t make a full return until Thursday, and that’s when temperatures will rebound to the lower 70s – still below average for temperatures that should be closer to 80 degrees now for late May.
Wednesday more rain will be possible through western and central Nebraska, mainly passing just west of Lincoln and far eastern Nebraska. We’ll remain mostly cloudy with some possible fog in the morning again.
Temperatures closing in on almost 90 degrees are right around the corner – especially looking toward next Monday in early June and the start of meteorological summer.
