Light mix possible across far southeast Nebraska
The rest of this week there will be chances for small winter weather events. We’re currently looking into three possible rounds: two for far southeast Nebraska affecting the morning and evening commute on Friday, then a small chance at light snow on Saturday that would include Lincoln.
Heading into the early hours of December 1st (Friday), there’s a decent chance for a wintry mix through far southeast Nebraska. Temperatures will be just above freezing with a light rain possible first closer to midnight, before a transition to light snow. A brief period of freezing rain is possible during the transition, as temperatures drop below freezing after about 2 a.m. Friday.
This comes from a system sliding mostly to our southeast, with minor overall impacts expected. Slick spots are possible first for Friday morning’s commute, so drive with caution if driving around in these areas highlighted below. The Winter Storm Severity Index (WSSI) has some minor impacts around Falls City through tonight.
There are five categories to the Winter Storm Severity Index. Below each category is broken down into what impacts are expected with each color. Tonight will only cause some minor issues if we see this precipitation develop southeast of a line from Hebron to Nebraska City.
There is another chance over that same area Friday afternoon, with temperatures just above or at freezing. A wintry mix would be possible during this timeframe, affecting the evening commute. This round is expected to move in and out quickly.
For everyone else on Friday including Lincoln, it’ll be the coldest day of the week so far. Highs will be in the upper 30s under mostly cloudy skies. We are expected to stay precipitation-free in Lincoln until a small chance for light snow on Saturday.
