Light morning showers early; few afternoon pop-up storms nearby across southeast Nebraska
As a front drops southeast early this morning, we’ll see some light showers quickly move in and out. They should be pushed through Lincoln closer to 6-7 a.m. Tuesday morning, not leaving much to impact the morning commute.
That front will act to reinforce some breezy northwesterly winds into the afternoon with some clearing. Gusts will be on the order of 15-25 mph during that timeframe. Temperatures will also still be quite comfortable.
With the heating of the day, some pop-up storms nearby will be possible this afternoon. These will be scattered about across southeast Nebraska, mainly south of I-80.
Most of the state is currently seeing little to no color on the trees (green on the maps below), other than the tree types that are experiencing a little stress due to lack of rain or are known to turn some color a little earlier.
The foliage forecast leans toward more patchy areas of color (yellow on the maps below) on the trees by next week.
We’re also getting into the timeframe at the end of the month where some parts of Nebraska are known to experience their first fall frost (36° or colder), based on climate averages.
If you’re curious when everyone sees their first freeze (32° or colder) of the season, look no further.
And below is a final reference for the first hard freeze (28° or colder) of the season across the state.
Over the next 10 days, Lincoln will not be close to even frosty temperatures just yet. One of the coldest morning lows in the forecast drops to about the mid 40s overnight early next week into early October.
