Light rain Thursday tracks east in Nebraska
Another warmer day ahead of us for Thursday, with cloud cover filling in the skies. The added cloud cover this time around will give us chances at rain. Anyone else ready for rain? Kind of weird to be talking about rain for the middle of December, but warm air coming in from the south will keep light rain in the forecast as the primary precipitation type.
Speaking of light rain, those in southwest and south-central Nebraska have already been experiencing some. Temperatures have been hovering right around freezing, so be cautious of some light freezing rain mixing in and creating slick spots on roads.
Through the rest of Thursday morning, we’ll warm above freezing and see the slow-moving system transition to all rain by the afternoon. Rain chances for Lincoln increase Thursday evening into early Friday.
Temperatures should be warm enough through the early morning hours of Friday that all precipitation falls in the form of rain. Rain chances will linger into Friday, especially as more forcing comes along a cold front Friday night.
We’re not talking about a whole lot of rain through these light showers – most of southeast Nebraska expecting around 0.10-0.25″ through Friday night. Most models are likely overdoing these numbers a bit, as some dry air will keep rain light early on. As we saturate, we’ll see more heading into Friday.
Saturday will have highs drop back into the middle 40s following the front, but still above average. We’ll dry out and warm up from there for a pleasant weekend.
