Lightning strike sparked fire that caused $150,000 in damage to south Lincoln home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A lightning strike sparked a fire that caused $150,000 in damage to a south Lincoln home, officials said Thursday.

The fire was reported around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday at a home near 40th Street and Yankee Hill Road.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue spokeswoman MJ Lierman said a lightning struck the roof, starting a fire in the attic.

Firefighters went up to the attic with a water cannon and extinguished the flames.

The fire caused $100,000 in damage to the structure and another $50,000 to the contents, Lierman said.
