Lincoln about to start summerlong $3.5 million project on Nebraska Parkway
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Plans for the Nebraska Parkway improvement project were laid out Wednesday at a virtual open house.
The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department held the event for the public to learn more about the summerlong construction project that will start in early June.
The project is estimated to cost $3.5 million and aims to lay fresh concrete on a half-mile stretch of the road from 48th to 56th streets. Officials also intend to complete base repairs and install new medians.
The four phases of construction, which will limit drivers to two lanes for the duration of the project, are anticipated to last until fall.
Drivers like Grace Arnold said the construction is “a little concerning.”
She explained that she takes Nebraska Parkway for her daily commute and worries about the traffic that will come with it.
“It would be inconvenient,” said another driver, Jodi Berghuis, who lives close to where the construction will be taking place. “There is so much construction going on everywhere in Lincoln right now, that even like getting across town takes double the time.”
But she is hoping that the project will result in stronger and longer-lasting roads.
LTU spokeswoman Erika Hill address some concerns at the open house.
She encouraged people to use the Waze app and to check the street closures map on LTU’s website to help find alternative routes.
