Lincoln abuse victims reminded to turn off hidden phones during FEMA alert

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Friendship Home of Lincoln warned domestic abuse victims ahead of a nationwide alert on Wednesday.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency sent a test alert to phones across the nation around 1:20 p.m.
Some domestic abuse victims use a hidden phone, which could have been compromised during the FEMA alert.
It was important that victims turned their cell phones off.
“From the research I’ve been told and the things that I’ve seen, even silencing a phone, or having do not disturb, that that phone is still going to go off,” said Dani Jurgens, the nonprofit’s development director.
Officials said hidden devices can be used to talk to loved ones and advocates, so it was important that they didn’t lose access to the phone.
