Lincoln Airport examines next steps after Red Way failure
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Airport has been looking at its future after the Red Way failure.
The Lincoln Airport Authority requested a third-party feasibility study to see if local flyer demands match what airlines have to offer.
Executive Director David Haring said sometimes the studies show that there aren’t any good investments, but he was pleasantly surprised by the results.
“It actually showed that we were not far off with our efforts with Red Way and going down the route of leisure markets,” he said.
Haring said the survey showed Orlando, Florida; Phoenix; Dallas; and Las Vegas as good matches for the Lincoln community.
“So that kind of tilts back to what we were trying to do beforehand,” he said.
Haring said the airport may look into pursuing American Airlines.
Officials may speak with stakeholders and community members for ideas on what consumers want to see.
“We’ve been discussing, OK, maybe having some sort of advisory board where we have more input from travel agents and not just the business community, but also the people who fly frequently,” said Nicki Behmen Popp, a member of the airport authority board. “I think we’ve learned that there’s an interest in our airport.”
