LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln’s water usage has returned to normal after Wednesday’s storm impacted the city’s wellfields.

In a statement Thursday morning, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Director Liz Elliott said there is now “sufficient capacity for normal water use.”

But the city is still encouraging voluntary outdoor water conservation.

“Lincoln has 60% of its wellfield capacity restored and we continue to work with OPPD to restore power to the rest of our wellfield,” Elliott said. “We want to thank Lincoln’s community members for coming together in this moment to help ensure an adequate water supply for the health and safety of everyone in Lincoln.”

LTU announced late Wednesday night that the storm caused “extensive” damage to the Omaha Public Power District’s system, which powers Lincoln’s 44 wellfields in Ashland.

The city asked community members to immediately stop all outdoor water use and voluntarily reduce indoor water use.
