Lincoln celebrates man’s best friend in a peculiar way

Today is NATIONAL MAKE A DOGS DAY and Subaru is participating in the fun.
Duteau is accepting donations for pets as a part of its Subaru Loves Pets Initiative. Every October, Subaru puts on an event for dogs across the nation.
It’s to give back to dogs in the community, helps some find forever homes and for pet owners, it’s to celebrate your pup by doing something fun with them.
Workers and customers brought their dogs to the dealership to celebrate the day. A customer and worker with a local shelter says the donations from the dealership are invaluable.
“Our local Subaru dealership provides adoption kits for us and new owners really love that,” said SHERRI BITNEY, of Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue. “It’s a kit with some toys and treats and things like that. As a rescue, we really appreciate that.”
Although the collection box is half full, they would like it to be filled to the brim, so local owners and dogs can have what they need.
“Things that you guys are able to donate here are leashes, bowls, food, treats, collars or any basic necessities that a dog may need. If you come down here and donate you also can pick up one of these cool plush Subaru outback dog toys,” said Jack Minnick, of Duteau Subaru.
People have donated over 50 items so far, and the owners would like to have more by the end of the drive.
“So far we have nine days left in the month,” adds Minnick. “We have a couple bags of food accounted for right now that we’re ready to donate but we’re looking to get a lot more before the end of the month. (It’s) trick or treating season, season of giving, come on down and donate for your local dog shelter.”
