Lincoln Children’s Museum kicking off spring break for kids with a golden opportunity
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Children’s Museum helped kids kick off spring break in style on Saturday.
As a way of celebrating the recent Winter Olympics, the museum rolled out hands-on challenges, teamwork and a chance to meet a local gold medalist.
“We have a great connection with Curtis Tomasevicz, who is an Olympic medalist,” said Ellie Charter, the Chief Marketing Officer for the museum. “And what a great role model for local area kids to know that if you put in hard work and dedication, you can achieve large-scale success.”
The museum will be open all week, giving families a chance to have an adventure during their time off from school.
The Lincoln Junior Stars team joined in on the fun, showing kids the ins and outs of Hockey.
“Their energy is unmatchable,” said Charter. “They got here before any kids were here, got on the floor and were skating around and playing. Every kid that comes up to them, they’ve helped them try on their gear, tape up their sticks, and try to play one-on-one with them. They’ve done a fabulous job engaging with the kids.”
Para-athlete and Figure Skater Holly Kubicek joined Olympic gold medalist Curtis Tomasevicz to showcase both of their sports.
At the same time, they gave kids an opportunity to learn more about something they might not have thought of before.
“It’s really cool because when I was younger, when I watched the Olympics, I was watching Mariah Bell and she inspired me so hopefully I inspire other kids,” Kubicek said.
Kids got to try on Tomasevicz’s gold medal, stand on a podium and make their own bobsled.
Tomasevicz said this can inspire younger generations for years to come.
“There’s a lot of sports that are an opportunity for kids from hockey, figure skating, even bobsled,” Tomasevicz said. “It gives kids the chance to try something new and branch out, which can lead to a lot of opportunity.”
