LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is celebrating the birthday of two of its animals.

Giraffes Kay and Mosi turned 1 year old, and the zoo held a party to honor them on Monday.

Kay and Mosi received cupcakes that were made with lettuce, squash and their daily food that they enjoy.

Due to the Presidents Day holiday, many kids didn’t have school and were able to join in the festivities.

Primary giraffe keeper Jake Beiermann said that the birth of these giraffes was a significant occasion for the zoo and that having a party was something it was looking forward to.

“Bringing these giraffes here was such a huge undertaking for our zoo,” he said. “And then for them to reach their first birthday is just something we wanted to celebrate as we continue to work to increase the conservation of giraffes throughout the country.”

Currently, the zoo has eight giraffes and is hoping to get more.
