LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – With the Lenten season right around the corner, Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln is encouraging a “carbon fast.”

In a press release on Thursday, the church said human emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are the primary drivers of climate change.

To help combat climate change, the church is releasing a carbon reduction calendar for Lent.

The calendar has tips for reducing energy use, local resources for going green, journal prompts about climate change and meatless recipes.

Beginning on March 1, you can download the calendar on the climate justice page of the church’s website.

Lent is observed by many Christian denominations as a time of repentance from sin.

Christians will often fast from eating for a time or give up something they enjoy.

This year, Lent begins on March 5 with Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter on April 20.
