Lincoln church set to hold services in building for first time since $1 million fire

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln church said Thursday that it’s about to reopen its doors after a devastating fire.
New Covenant Community Church near 84th Street and Old Cheney Road will hold services at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
“We are getting closer and closer to being ready for Sunday!” the church said on Facebook. “Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to help out within the building. We can’t wait to see you on Sunday!!”

Early in the morning of May 4, lightning struck the church, sparking a fire that caused more than $1 million in damage.
New Covenant said everything in the sanctuary was destroyed.
Since then, the congregation has been meeting outside or in other buildings.
Last month, the church said it was first going to open the north auditorium, which sustained only smoke damage.
Work on the sanctuary is expected to take months.
