Lincoln church’s first Lent fish fry reels in Catholics and non-Catholics from ‘all over’

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Catholic church in Lincoln aims to bring the community together during a time of religious observance.

St. John the Apostle Catholic Church near 84th and Vine streets hosted its first Lenten fish fry of 2025 on Friday evening.

“Our main thing is to bring people together,” Phil Wolfe, one of the organizers, said. “A chance to socialize, get to know each other better. You know, we had the COVID years, when we didn’t get to come inside, so we’re really excited about being back inside the building and getting to visit with one another.”

Wolfe said people come from “all over” for the fish fry, which is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

“People are here who aren’t Catholic, people not from Lincoln,” he said. “We even have people come down from Omaha for our fish fry because our fish fry is that good.”

St John will have its fish fry every Friday through the remainder of Lent. It runs from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
