Lincoln City Council approves $14 million stormwater bond issue
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A $14 million bond issue will be on Lincoln voters’ ballots this November.
The Lincoln City Council voted 7-0 on Monday to approve the bonds, which are meant to improve stormwater drainage.
“This isn’t frivolous money, this is not an extra,” said Sandra Washington, chair of the council. “This is a necessity for protecting houses, homes, businesses, livelihoods. This is how we keep ourselves safe in Lincoln.”
The plan consists of 20 projects aimed at reducing flooding during storms.
One of the projects would be at 48th Street and Cornhusker Highway, where three vehicles got stuck in a flash flood earlier this month.

Those who spoke at the council meeting were in favor of the bonds.
“I think it’s imperative the public has a voice, whenever we have an opportunity in our hands, with matters as large as this,” Lincoln resident Roy Helm said. “Please offer your support, and I hope to see this on the ballot this fall.”
Lincoln voters have passed stormwater bonds before.
If they approve this one, work will begin as early as January, Washington said.
