Lincoln City Council approves zoning change for new Garner Industries location

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln City Council on Monday gave a thumbs-up to the new location for Garner Industries.

The company requested a zoning change at 35th and Superior streets, which the council approved unanimously.

Manufacturing has already started there, but a zoning change was needed to allow a specific type of machining.

Garner’s previous facility between Lincoln and Waverly was decimated by a tornado on April 26.

The building, all the equipment and all the inventory were destroyed, President and CEO Scott McLain told the city council.

Four employees suffered minor injuries.

After the storm, the company laid off 62 employees.

Garner, which makes plastic injection-molded parts used in everything from cars to electronics, has since moved its corporate office to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Innovation Campus.
