Lincoln City Council expresses support for Morrow ahead of police chief vote

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln City Council held its first reading Monday on Michon Morrow’s nomination for police chief.

Morrow has been a member of the Lincoln Police Department since 1995 and became acting police chief in July.

City Councilman Tom Duden, a former police officer, said he’s looking forward to having Morrow as the permanent chief.

“She’s already made some great changes,” Duden said. “I’ve heard she’s been a good ear for the veterans and the officers that are there now.”

The meeting came after a busy weekend for law enforcement.

LPD responded to a stabbing outside a Lincoln bar early Saturday morning.

The next day, there was an armed robbery at a gas station near Havelock Avenue and Cornhusker Highway.

Police data show a slight uptick in aggravated assaults and robberies in Lincoln compared with the same time last year.

Duden said Morrow’s leadership style will help her make wise decisions.

The council will vote on the nomination next Monday, March 18.
