Lincoln County officials find body of North Platte man on North Platte River

The Lincoln County 911 Center received a call of a possible drowning around 4:25 a.m. Saturday.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, it was reported a male subject had fell into an irrigation gate structure on the North Platte River.

Deputies, the North Platte and Sutherland Dive Team and rescue units responded to the river on North Sand Road, west of Hershey.

At 4:43 a.m., Deputies found the deceased body, 23-year-old Matthew Bruning of North Platte.

Police say Bruning was trapped in the gate structure and was eventually removed by dive team members.

A witness advised Bruning was on the gate structure and fell into the water.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says the death was an accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
