A Lincoln couple is putting themselves to the test, Fred and Maggie Thorne are competing in the pulse pounding action packed TV show, American Ninja Warrior.
This isn’t Maggie’s first time, she was on the show back in season 6, and she had to give her husband, a teacher at Southeast High School, a little nudge to join her this time.
"I know he has so much athletic talent and to be honest I think a lot more than I do, and the kids have been able to see me achieve so much, and I really wanted them to see dad in that role," Maggie Thorne said.
The Thorne’s have made this a family affair with their kids Charlie, Fiona, and Ellie training right alongside their parents, and because there’s no ninja gym in Lincoln, they have to get creative for their workout.
"We could see that as a disadvantage, that we don’t have access to what’s coming for the American Ninja course, but I think it’s advantageous in a way that we have to be creative and come up with our own obstacles, because you never know what you’re going to see," Fred Thorne said.
Maggie, who’s in marketing and a former Mrs. International will also be taking part in Spartan’s Ultimate Team Challenge.
"We could chalk ourselves up as these older parents that can’t do anything anymore, and just sit on the sidelines, but we’re very interactive and a part of our childrens lives, and I do feel like that’s an inspiration for many people," Maggie said.
Maggie also hopes to raise awareness for the non- profit Soles for Souls. The group is committed to fighting poverty by providing shoes and clothing for those in need.
Fred’s episode is airing Monday June 13th, and Maggie’s air on June 27th and 30th. You can follow their journey on social media: https://twitter.com/Nvr_GvUp or https://twitter.com/ShieldofThornes.
