Lincoln couple ready to see their grandson take the field in the Super Bowl

Dick and Joan Longacre have plenty to be excited for this Sunday.

Their grandson Matt Longacre plays outside linebacker for the NFC Champion L.A. Rams.

“That is an accomplishment for a kid from Nebraska,” Dick said.

The Longacres said they went to most of Matt’s games when he was playing for Millard West High and often went down to Maryville, Missouri to watch his home games at Northwest Missouri State.

They said it’s been great to watch him grow as a player.

“It’s been marvelous,” Joan said.  “It just shows how he has worked very hard.  He’s had a lot of support along the way from coaches and family members.”

They said Matt is in good company with several of his teammates also having Nebraska ties.

“It’s nice to see the Nebraska connection that’s fallen within the team because Suh is there and then Zuerlein and then the quarterback coach is Zac Taylor,” Dick said.

They said things have been busy for Matt down in Atlanta, but that they’ve managed to exchange text messages with him this past week.

“He thinks they’re going to win,” Dick said.  “That they’re in position to win and he’s very positive right now too.”

The Longacres plan to have a big Super Bowl party Sunday.  They said Matt has a lot of support from their friends and community.
