Lincoln cyclist hospitalized after colliding with pickup in Gage County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A cyclist was hospitalized Sunday after he collided with a pickup in Gage County.

Around 1:30 p.m., deputies with the Gage County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the intersection of the Homestead Trail and Elm Road.

According to the sheriff’s department, a 2004 Chevrolet pickup was driving east on Elm Road near the bike path when he felt something hit the side of his truck.

The cyclist — a 51-year-old Lincoln man — was riding north on the bike path south of Elm Road.

After the impact, the driver of the pickup stopped and called 911.

Investigators said the cyclist did not stop for the stop sign on the bike path, entered the roadway and hit the pickup on its side.

The cyclist was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Authorities said the cyclist was wearing a helmet.
