Lincoln domestic violence organizations speak out following murder-suicide
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — After the devastating murder-suicide in Lincoln on Friday, domestic violence organizations are stepping up.
Voices of Hope, a local crisis intervention service, offers help for victims suffering from sexual assault, domestic violence and many other crimes.
“Everything that we can do in all of the ways big and small, I think is important,” said Natalie Roberts-Day, the executive director.

Because this marks the third murder-suicide in Lincoln this year, Roberts-Day said they want to be there for those that need it in any way they can, including their partnership with the Lincoln Police Department.
“When a perpetrator is lodged or arrested for a domestic assault, that officer contacts our advocates and we try and make contact with that victim to let them know that help and support is available, give them a safety plan, talk them through resources that might be available to help them create safety for whatever that looks like in their particular situation,” she said.

Leah Droge, the executive director for Friendship Home, said their cause is not just about offering resources, it’s about trying to make a change for the future as well.
“Some of the things the legislature has done, LB 78, to create a safe housing fund,” she said. “Our state has taken that step but has not started yet, so we’re hopeful to see that impact in the future. But we know economic stability is a challenge right now and we see increasing stressors around that.”
