Lincoln drivers pumped over lower gas prices ahead of Memorial Day
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Memorial Day travel is already rolling, and so are the gas pumps.
AAA said it expect over 39 million Americans to travel by car this holiday season.
Whether you’re headed out of Lincoln for a quick getaway or crossing town for a family cookout, if you’re planning to hit the highway, it might just be your wallet’s lucky weekend.
Gas prices are lower than usual for this time of year.
“The average price in Lincoln is about $2.94,” said Patrick De Haan with GasBuddy. “The first time we’ve seen a sub-$3 tally for Memorial Day since COVID.”
He said that’s giving families a green light to hit the road.

One family driving from Colorado to Indiana said they noticed how cheap gas is in Lincoln.
And Louisiana natives Maniqua Alexander and Johnathan Peoples, who just moved to Lincoln, agree.
They’ll be spending the weekend exploring their new city.
“We are thankful that the gas prices are dropping because it gives us more opportunity, you know, to have fun with each other, to go out an explore and to see things more,” Peoples said.
Lincolnite Avery Overholt said he used to live in California and filling up his tank once cost a pretty penny.
“I rent a Corvette when I was out there, and the gas was, a full tank was like 90 bucks,” he said. “Versus now I rent a ’76 Trans Am, and that’s probably 45 bucks, 40 bucks to fill up.”
De Haan said despite some economic concerns, no matter where you’re going this summer, it should be relatively easy on your wallet.
