Lincoln East avenges last year’s loss to Lincoln Southwest

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln East came to Seacrest Field on Friday hoping to avenge its loss to the Silver Hawks last year.

The Spartans played a solid four quarters and got a 28-7 victory.

In the first quarter, with just under six minutes to go, Lincoln East quarterback Jeter Worthly decided to take it himself and scamper 18 yards to the end zone.

Between the first and second quarters, the NSAA presented the Lincoln East athletic department with the NSAA Cup for last year’s success across all schools in Class A.

In the second quarter, Southwest needed a first down and elected to go with the fullback Thomas Worster, who plowed his way past the first down sticks.

The Silver Hawks would score later that drive to tie it at 7.

Later that quarter, the Southwest QB Brockson Teply was under pressure and threw the ball over the middle of the field.

He was picked off by Troy Peltz, who took it over midfield to start the Spartans’ drive.

Just a few plays after that, Dash Bauman took a pitch and ran to the left side and into the end zone to put East up 14-7.

Then with less than 30 seconds left in the half, the Silver Hawks passed the ball on third down, and it dropped incomplete.

That gave the Spartans a little less than 25 seconds to score.

It took them just one play after the punt.

Worthly aired a pass over the middle of the field to Bauman, who caught it and ran down the field for the 69-yard score.

The Spartans added one more touchdown in the third quarter to seal the victory.

After the game, head coach John Gingery said his team hadn’t played a complete game before Friday night.

“We put it together,” he said. “Four quarters; that was our goal.”

Bauman and his teammates just wanted to beat the Silver Hawks after losing to them last year.

“It really hurt a lot of us that we thought we could win, so this year to just get back out here and win it, it just, it feels great.”
