Lincoln election officials announce polling place change after church fire

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln election officials announced a “last-minute” polling place change Tuesday ahead of the May 14 primary.

The New Covenant Community Church — which houses precincts 10 H-3 and 10 H-7 — sustained $1 million in damage in a fire Sunday.

Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen said the church is now focusing on restoring its facility and can’t host voters.

“We agreed it would be best to find an alternate location for the primary election,” Wiltgen said in a press release.

The precincts have been moved to Faith Bible Church at 6201 S. 84th Street.  The change will impact around 2,900 voters.

“We appreciate the years of service New Covenant has provided as a polling place and wish them the best in their recovery. We look forward to them being able to return as a polling place,” Wiltgen said.  “We deeply thank Faith Bible Church for their service to the voters of Lancaster County on short notice.”

Notices of the change will be mailed to all affected voters this week, election officials said.

Voters looking for their polling place can search on the Nebraska Voter Information Lookup website.
