A Lincoln family struck by tragedy back in October was highlighted by the UBT-sponsered Magic Moment today.
Three-year-old Jack and his little brother Luke aren’t fully aware yet that their father is gone. Casey Massa had a heart condition unknown to the family. When the attack struck only a few months ago, Amber gave her 32-year-old husband CPR to try to bring him back.
"I know a lot of wives say this and every couple probably says it, but Casey was my best friend," Amber Massa said. "He was just one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life."
In the wake of the tragedy, Amber’s main focus is on her two little boys. Union bank gave her and the boys gifts to help them navigate the holidays. Amber says the key to healing is routine, love, and family.
"It helps them like it helps me having people around," she said.
Ricky, Casey’s brother, moved from California after the tragedy to help care for Amber and the kids.
"Ricky coming down and moving in with me and helping me with the boys," she said. "It doesn’t really surprise me because that’s the kind of people they are. Casey would have done the same thing for anybody else."
Jenny Malone, the friend who nominated the family for the Magic Moment, has been by Amber’s side since the night of the tragedy.
"When I got the call that night that’s when I felt I’d been put in her life for a reason," Malone said. "She’s been a blessing to me and I’m going to do everything I can to help her get through this."
