Lincoln felon gets four years in prison after posting pics of guns on social media
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man will spend four years behind bars after he posted pictures of a gun on social media, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Deigo Carter Jr., 21, was sentenced Friday for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In September 2021, Lincoln Police noticed that Carter had posted images of guns on social media, including one video that showed a handgun with a “unique laser attachment,” the attorney’s office said.
On Sept. 7, Carter made another post on social media: an advertisement for drugs.
Later that evening, police saw Carter leave his home with others, and an officer noticed a green laser coming from the car.
After coming out of a Lincoln business, Carter – who was on post-release supervision due to two felony convictions – was approached by officers.
Investigators searched the car and found a laser attachment, similar to the one seen in Carter’s video, according to the attorney’s office.
Police also found the THC product Carter was advertising, jars with marijuana residue and a stolen pistol, which had an extended and loaded magazine.
The gun, which had been reported stolen a month prior, was also featured in one of Carter’s social media posts.
DNA evidence later linked Carter to the gun, according to the attorney’s office.
Since Carter had the gun in connection with drug distribution, the attorney’s office said his prison sentence was enhanced.
After his prison sentence, Carter will serve a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
