Lincoln Fire & Rescue gets federal grant to hire more firefighters, paramedics

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Officials announced Thursday that Lincoln Fire & Rescue received a federal grant to bolster its crews.

The $5.9 million grant, provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will help pay for 18 additional firefighters and paramedics.

“By adding 18 first responders to our team at LFR, we bolster our commitment to public safety and enhance our efforts to ensure the well-being of our entire community,” Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird said in a press release.

Chief Dave Engler said the grants will help LFR provide the highest level of safety and service in Lincoln.

“This funding supports our continued focus on strengthening LFR ranks with exceptional personnel,” he said in the release.

The new LFR members are expected to begin service in the spring.
