Lincoln Fire & Rescue presents Firefighter of the Year Award

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln firefighter was presented with a special award Wednesday morning.

Dawn Campos is the recipient of the 10th Doug Wells Memorial Firefighter of the Year Award.

She is the first woman to win this prestigious Lincoln Fire & Rescue award.

Campos works at Fire Station #5 and serves a variety of roles for LFR.

She is on a number of committees, instructs multiple trainings and organizes the bell-ringing fundraiser with the Salvation Army.

Campos also fills in as a paramedic, and LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said above all, she is an inspiration and a leader to those around her.

Her father was a firefighter, which inspired her to follow in his footsteps.

“I just can’t think of a better job,” she said. “I’ve been very blessed.”

A special lunch was held at Fire Station #5 to honor Campos’ accomplishments over her 27 years of service.
