One person has life-threatening injuries after fiery crash in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One person was hospitalized Friday night after a fiery crash in Lincoln.
The crash happened about 7 p.m. at Highway 77 and Pioneers Boulevard.
A disabled vehicle stopped in the intersection with its hazard lights on, according to a state trooper on the scene.
It was then hit by another vehicle and caught fire, the Nebraska State Patrol said.
The driver of the disabled vehicle got out and tried to run to safety, authorities said.
But the driver was hit by an oncoming SUV. They were taken to Bryan West Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, the patrol said.
No one else was seriously injured, according to the patrol.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews put out the flames by 8 p.m., according to a Channel 8 reporter at the scene.
Highway 77 is closed from Van Dorn Street to Old Cheney Road, according to the Lincoln-Lancaster County Emergency Management Agency.

The trooper on scene said the road will be closed until the patrol’s crash reconstruction team completes its work. The patrol will be using a drone for the reconstruction.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation will apply salt and sand to the highway to keep the water used to fight the fire from freezing.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln Police Department also responded to the crash.
