Lincoln Fire & Rescue will destroy unwanted fireworks after Fourth of July

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Fire & Rescue will participate in a firework and ammunition collection event after this Fourth of July.
The event is set for July 5 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the east parking lot of Oak Lake Park.
The fire department said it gets multiple requests throughout the year to pick up unwanted explosives.
Chief Fire Inspector Bill Moody said those explosives become more dangerous with age, so the department’s happy to toss them.
“Storing unused and unwanted fireworks and ammunition in your home can be a hazardous situation due to the fact that both fireworks and ammunition can degrade,” Moody said.
Once the fireworks and ammunition are collected, LFR will destroy them in an incinerator.
