Lincoln gang member gets over three years in federal prison

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man will spend over three years behind bars for his role in the Trip Set gang.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 21-year-old Liep Kek Yiel was sentenced Wednesday to three years and four months in federal prison.
He was sentenced for conspiring with other Trip Set gang members to possess firearms while committing drug crimes.
After his prison sentence, Yiel will serve a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
The attorney’s office said the defendants were also involved in retaliatory shootings.
Tilian John Tilian, another Trip Set member, pleaded guilty on July 28 to being a drug user in possession of a firearm. He got 2½ years in prison.
Duop Kek Yiel, a gang leader and Liep’s older brother, was sentenced on Aug. 18 to eight years in federal prison on gun charges.
The fourth defendant, Muminfidadya Kuwa, is set for trial on Nov. 30.
