Lincoln gets $224,000 grant for downtown bike lanes

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The City of Lincoln will receive a $224,000 federal grant for a bike network downtown.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration announced $44.5 million in grants intended to make roads safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The money came from the infrastructure law passed in 2021.

Lincoln will use its share to complete drawings for over 2 miles of separated bike lanes on five streets.

The 2019 Lincoln Bike Plan identified 13th, 16th, 17th, Q and R streets as roads that could be improved for bicyclists.

The DOT said the bike lanes will benefit some of the city’s poorest neighborhoods.
