Lincoln group helps those in need shovel off their driveways and sidewalks

The big snowfall totals that Lincoln experienced on Saturday night left a lot of shoveling for everyone.

But for the some who can’t clear their driveways they call on the Snow Angels to help dig them out.

“Basically it’s a group of volunteers to help folks get rid of the snow and obviously one of these major snow storms,” Scott Opfer from the Snow Angels said.

The snow angels started seven years ago in an effort to go around the community to help those in need.

“We started it with my church back in 2012 and it’s kind of grown since then we have about 50 volunteers across the city and I have about 7 in my church that help and I just call them and we go take care of usually any where between a dozen to 20 location every snowfall,” Opfer said.

For Scott who helped start the local program helping out every winter is very fulfilling, but you don’t need to be a part of snow angels to help those in need. You can go around your neighborhood and help out your neighbors.

If you would like to sign up to help, or to contact the Snow Angels to come clear your walkways you can find them at their website, https://snow.lincoln.ne.gov/snow-angels/
