Lincoln gym gives advice on how to stick to New Year’s resolutions

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — New Year’s resolutions are a time-honored tradition, with millions of people promising themselves to become healthier or save money.

But how do you make sure that your goals last?

When January rolls around, gyms across the country see a sharp increase in membership.

Many new faces hope to transform their health in the new year.

Fitness trainer and owner of Body Fit Training in Lincoln, Mike Hahn, spoke about the challenges and the rewards of the New Year’s rush.

“The first few weeks of a new year, you always get the people who have those New Year’s resolutions, you get people coming back to the gym,” Hahn said. “Then you get people who are not sure of what exactly what they want to do.”

Neveen on the NOW Local News App said she bought about 10 books in 2024 and her New Year’s resolution was to read at least one of them.

Citizen journalist Kevin has two resolutions.

“My big resolution is to rekindle relationships with family, and friends and loved ones.”

He wants to save more money “instead of spending randomly on stuff I don’t need.”

Whatever your resolutions may be, experts say the key to success is finding balance, consistency and enjoyment in the journey.

Hahn said it helps to stay consistent by setting a schedule and having an accountability partner.
