A Lincoln Southwest High School student has chosen to spend her time at home benefiting the community, one treat at a time.

“I’m making snickerdoodle cookies and so I am going to first mix the dry ingredients and then the wet ingredients,” said Kiah Ellismith.

Ellismith is taking requests for favorite desserts from family, friends and her parent’s co–workers.

“Everybody really seems to enjoy them, sometimes I get thank you notes or little gifts so yeah I think people really like it,” said Ellismith.

After people tried offering Ellismith money, her mom thought of the idea of donating to the Lincoln COVID–19 Response Fund.

“I’ve been really proud of her, every morning she gets up at 8 o’clock and by 8:30 she is up here eating breakfast, doing her school work and then as soon as she gets done with that she moves onto baking,” said Jill Mlinar.

Mlinar helps her daughter deliver the treats, each one comes with a personal note. But as for the baking, that’s all Kiah.

“I’m going to form them into balls and then roll them in cinnamon and sugar and then place them on the pan and place them in the oven,” said Ellismith.

Ellismith has made something every day, for the past 3 weeks. Snickerdoodle cookies and scotcheroos have been a fan favorite.

“It keeps her busy and it feels good you know that she knows she is helping people and brightening their days,” said Mlinar.

Ellismith had no idea her hobby would turn into helping those in need.

“I didn’t think it would end up being like helping people, it was just something to make people feel better about what’s going on,” said Ellismith.
