Lincoln house fire sparked by unattended burner caused $200,000 in damage

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Fire & Rescue says a house is a total loss after a Tuesday morning fire.

LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said the home near Second and E streets had $200,000 in damage.

A neighbor called in the fire around 9:30 a.m., after seeing smoke coming from the home.

A stove burner was left on with a pan on top of it, Lierman said, sparking the fire.

The blaze spread from the kitchen to the attic.

No one was inside the home, but a cat died in the fire, Lierman said.  Another cat was rescued.

Friends have started a GoFundMe page to help the family that lived in the home.
