Lincoln Hurts Donuts donates portion of National Donut Day sales to local nonprofit

Store will give 10% of sales to Outta the Blue Farm and Stables

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Friday is National Donut Day, and donut shops across Lincoln are taking part in the celebration.

Hurts Donuts, near 9th and P Streets, is cooking donuts for a good cause.

Ten percent of all of the donut sales will be donated to the nonprofit Outta the Blue Farm and Stables.

It is an organization dedicated to helping military members, veterans and their families.

It provides free monthly events and free horseback riding lessons.

On the flyer being handed out to customers, the organization says there are many beneficial skills learned while working alongside an equine companion.

Co-owner Tell Jones explained what the organization would do with the money raised.

“We’re going to take any profits we can get from today donated to us, and we’re going to invest that in our business so we can continue to support the local veteran population,” Jones said. “It helps us with hay costs, vet bills, fencing, all of that.”

Jones hopes that this fundraiser will help veterans get certified equine therapy sessions with a mental health professional.

Hurts Donuts’ fundraiser will last until midnight Friday.
