Lincoln Kurdish community speak out about ISIS leader’s death

Members of the Kurdish community in Lincoln shared their opinion of the ISIS leader’s death on Sunday.
The Kurdish community organization volunteered to collect trash in Eagle, Nebraska.
Many said they are happy to have a victory for those suffering.
The group’s leader, Naser Yahya, said even though many are happy to know one leader is dead, it’s the ideology that they want to die. Teens in the group agreed that Al Baghdadi’s death is a good sign for the Kurdistan region.
“Kurdistan might have more comfort. the residents might have more comfort because they are less targeted. they might still be targeted by the Turks but now they have one less problem,” said Pii Mmin, a teen volunteer.
The Kurdish community is growing in Lincoln and the organization has about 120 families that stay in the city. The war has had impact an on friends and family of those who live here.
“I have people I know who back home, their villages are the ones that are being attacked. I’ve seen gas attacks and bomb attacks and basically there’s just been whole villages raided.”
For now, the local Kurdish are choosing to stay positive and hope the U.S. Army continues to help protect Syria.
