Lincoln man accused of 2022 homicide at Branched Oak pleads guilty

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder in a 2022 homicide at Branched Oak Lake.
Taban Rik initially faced first-degree murder and several other felonies, but the charges were reduced in exchange for his plea.

In July 2022, 42-year-old Benjamin Case was having a party with four friends in the cabin of his boat.
Authorities said Rik climbed on board the boat and fatally shot Case.
Others on the boat escaped into the water through hatches.
Rik is set to be sentenced on Sept. 12.
