Lincoln man accused of punching, pistol-whipping man in alley near downtown

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man was arrested Wednesday after police say he assaulted someone in an alley near downtown.
Richard Schaub, 40, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, use of a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and several drug charges.
On Sunday, officers with the Lincoln Police Department were called to the area of 17th and Washington streets on a report of a robbery.
When officers arrived, they found a 43-year-old Lincoln man bleeding and suffering from multiple injuries, including facial and jaw fractures.
During the investigation, officers watched surveillance video that showed the assault and what led up to it.
Police said the victim and Schaub were talking in the alley just before 5:30 p.m.
As the victim tried to leave, another vehicle approached, and a person got out, according to LPD.
That person and Schaub were both captured on camera repeatedly punching and kicking the victim, LPD said.
According to officials, Schaub was seen using a pistol to hit the victim in the head.
On Wednesday, the LPD SWAT team served a warrant at Schaub’s apartment, where he was arrested without incident.
Investigators said they found a knife in his pocket, a loaded handgun, a baggie of drug powder, a scale and a large amount of cash.
Schaub was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail.
