Lincoln sex offender arrested in assaults of young girls; bail set at $100,000

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man was arrested after authorities were notified that he had been sexually assaulting underage girls, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said.

Chance Johnson, 22, of Lincoln sexually assaulted multiple girls several times, Sheriff Terry Wagner said.

Authorities were made aware of the assaults in late August, and Johnson was arrested on Sept. 6.

Johnson was convicted in June 2021 for child abuse and first-degree false imprisonment, which was amended from first-degree sexual assault.

Since his conviction as a sex offender, he has been required to report his whereabouts to the state.

According to the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry, Johnson lived in northern Lincoln.

After the latest accusations, Johnson was arrested on suspicion of electronic child enticement, two counts of child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and first-degree sexual assault of a child.

His bail is currently set at $100,000, or 10% of the $1 million bond.

Court documents show that the victims range between 12 and 16 years old.

Wagner thinks that Johnson may have victimized other girls.

“We are encouraging parents of 15-year-old girls, especially, to talk with them, monitor their social media activity and to determine if Johnson has had any contact with them,” Wagner said. “He is a sexual predator that preys on 15-year-old girls, and we really want to find out if there are other victims out there that need assistance so we can get this stopped.”

The sheriff warned about how many predators will use the internet to get in contact with children.

“He’s not out lurking in the bushes waiting to grab somebody; he does it more through social media,” Wagner said. “And this is the norm for just about every sexual predator: start chatting on social media, exchange lewd photographs of each other, and then encourage them to meet.”

The sheriff’s office is asking parents and guardians to talk to their children about these dangers and ask kids if they knew Johnson.

Anyone with information on Johnson is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 402-441-6500.
