Lincoln man arrested on third DUI after driving wrong way on 10th Street

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man was arrested Sunday after police say he was drunkenly driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

Lord Okeng, 32, appeared in court Monday after being charged with his third DUI and two traffic violations.

According to an arrest affidavit, police saw Okeng driving west on South Street when he turned south onto 10th Street, which is a northbound street.

When they pulled him over, the smell of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from the car, according to police.

Okeng gave the officer an ignition interlock permit, police said, but no ignition interlock was installed in the vehicle.

After a quick investigation, officers found that Okeng had an active arrest warrant, and police asked him to get out of his car.

According to the affidavit, he had a hard time balancing when exiting the vehicle and he started to become “belligerent.”

Okeng was arrested on his warrant and escorted back to the cruiser.

While walking to the cruiser, Okeng became even more belligerent, police said.

He would tense up, stop walking and yell back to the passenger in his vehicle, the affidavit says.

Once in the cruiser, Okeng locked his leg outside the door to prevent the officer from shutting it, according to the affidavit.

He eventually brought his leg inside the car but then started kicking the partition and swearing at the officer, police said.

According to the affidavit, Okeng blew a 0.275% blood alcohol content level. That’s more than three times the legal limit.

Through further investigation, police found that Okeng’s license was revoked after his second DUI in 2022.

He was not eligible to have it reinstated until May, police said.

Okeng was placed in the Lancaster County Jail.

His bond was set at $25,000, and he is due back in court on May 28.
