Lincoln man caught with drugs after witnesses saw him stealing from vehicles

Lincoln Police arrested a man for possession of drugs, but he was caught after a woman saw him breaking into cars at a baseball field.

Officer Angela Sands said 46-year-old Tracy Abrams was seen hitting a car window and fleeing from Elks Fields Wednesday. Two woman reported their vehicles were broken into and their purses stolen around the same time the man was seen.

The witness took down the license plate number of the suspect’s car and police found him near 18th and G street.

Sands said he tried to walk away from officers, discarded drugs in a tree and then fought with officers as they were handcuffing him.

They were eventually able to take him into custody. Sands said officers found 11 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 1.2 grams of suspected meth. She said he also had $1,362 dollars and the stolen purses.

He was arrested for possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of money while violating the previous laws and obstructing police officers.

Sands said investigators are looking into whether or not Abrams also used one of the victim’s credit cards.
