LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man has been charged in connection to the death of a motorcyclist in July.

Court records show Patrick Tvrdy appeared in Lancaster County Court on Thursday where he was charged with felony motor vehicle homicide – DUI.

Authorities say Tvrdy was behind the wheel of a vehicle that collided with a motorcycle near 33rd and Hwy. 2 on July 30.

The motorcycle driver, 23-year-old Brady Sweetser, died at the scene.

According to a Lincoln Police Department accident report, Tvrdy was making a turn off of Hwy. 2 onto Pioneers Blvd. when Sweetser struck the car’s front passenger side door, ejecting him from his bike.

A witness told officers they were at a stop light when they saw Sweetser accelerate at a high rate of speed as the light turned green, the report says. The witness also reported they saw Tvrdy fail to yield as Sweetser approached.

A criminal complaint against Tvrdy alleges he caused Sweetser’s death “unintentionally while engaged in the operation of a motor vehicle.”

A judge set Tvrdy’s bond at $20,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for later this month.
