Lincoln man facing sixth DUI after police say he bypassed ignition interlock device

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Police say a Lincoln man notched his sixth DUI on Sunday night in the parking lot of a liquor store.
About 10 p.m., officers were sent to Kong’s Liquor near 56th and Holdrege streets on a report of a drunken driver.
Meanwhile, two other officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run that happened about 1 mile to the south.
At the liquor store, court documents say police found 33-year-old Michael Anderson in a red pickup truck, which matched the description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
He smelled strongly of alcohol, an arrest affidavit says, and his shorts were on backward.
Officers saw numerous empty Fireball shooters in the pocket of the driver’s side door, according to the affidavit.
Police said the pickup also had damage that was consistent with the damage to the other vehicle in the hit-and-run.
Anderson’s blood alcohol content level was .131%. the affidavit says.
His most recent DUI conviction was in 2022.
There was an ignition interlock device in the pickup, but officers said Anderson found a way to circumvent it.
Court documents describe a “trigger device” with a wire going into the dash that allowed the truck to start without using the interlock device.
Anderson is charged with felony DUI, driving while revoked from DUI and tampering with an interlock device.
He appeared in court Monday, and a Lancaster County judge set his bond at $250,000. He would need to pay $25,000 to be released.
His next court appearance is scheduled for May 13.
