Lincoln man fought and ran from police officer, LPD says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man was arrested Thursday night after police say he ran from and assaulted an officer.
Just after 10:30 p.m., police were sent to a home on West Loring Street in Air Park for a protection order violation.
Officers found 37-year-old Mynsraim Encalada-Cruz, who defied commands and appeared to be intoxicated, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
A sergeant tried to take the man into custody, but Cruz tried to pull away and both fell into the middle of Northwest 48th Street, according to officials.
LPD said the sergeant’s body-worn camera and handcuffs fell to the ground as Cruz broke free and took off running.
A good Samaritan on the scene picked up the handcuffs and got them to the sergeant, who caught up to the suspect in a ditch about 200 feet away, officials said.
During the struggle, the sergeant suffered scrapes to his elbows, hands and knees, LPD said.
Officials said Cruz had a bag of marijuana in his sweatshirt that he tossed in the grass during the chase.
Cruz was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.
He was also booked on suspicion of three counts of violating a protection order.
