Lincoln man gets 14 years in prison for child porn possession

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man will spend 14 years in prison for possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.
U.S. District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced John Wade Burton, 67, on Friday.
He was convicted in February.
In 2020, the FBI traced an IP address that had accessed some child porn websites to Burton’s home.
Authorities searched his residence that November and seized electronic devices in his bedroom and basement and a hard drive in the garage.
They found more than 2,000 images and videos of child porn.
At the time, Burton was living with his father while on parole for sexually assaulting a child under 14 in Missouri.
He tried to argue at trial that his dad, who had since died, had downloaded the child porn.
“The jury did not believe you, and neither do I,” Gerrard told Burton on Friday.
After his prison sentence, Burton will spend 10 years on supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
He was also ordered to pay $21,000 in restitution.
